The Pebble collection

Bold, modern and always stylish
pebbles by the sea

Inspired by natural stones worn smooth over time, the Pebble collection makes an effortless statement for everyday wear. The minimalist pebble-like forms feel both organic and contemporary and exude a quiet confidence. The Pebble collection can be made in four different finishes: brushed silver, brushed 14ct gold filled, or a delicate lace embossing which can be finished with an oxidised finish or a plain silver texture. A variety of sizes of pendants, necklaces, stud and hook earrings, and rings are available, and I am always happy to make up specific sizes and shapes upon request.

Softly domed handmade pebble shapes in precious metal
making pebble jewellery

The pebble shapes are cut out of flat sheet into soft triangular shapes. These are then gently domed using forming tools and then soldered together at the edges of the three points of the triangle. Various stages of finishing are then applied to the pebbles before applying my final and most favoured metal finish using humble green kitchen scourers. When done evenly in one direction this creates a beautiful, brushed finish.

Some pebbles have a lace finish embossed into the surface with rolling mills. This is a one-chance-only process as the lace is destroyed after one pass through the rolling mills. I have used laces from various sources including antique and vintage clothing, as well as underwear bought from lingerie departments (which raised some eyebrows when included in my tax return!) The lace pebbles can then be finished in two ways: an oxidised surface which is brushed back to leave the black finish in the lace pattern only or an elegant silver finish.
Caring for your Pebble jewellery
materials for cleaning pebble jewellery

It is best to keep your Pebble jewellery in an airtight environment like a zip lock plastic bag or wrapped in cloth or tissue paper. Don’t leave silver jewellery out in the open as circulating air will speed up any tarnishing. It is best to avoid handling the brushed surfaces of the pebble shapes as much as possible to prevent grease and fingerprint marks.

The simplest way to clean the surface of the brushed pebbles only (not lace embossed) is to use a green kitchen scourer. This is what I use to put the brushed finish on these pieces. Rub the scourer lightly on the pebble surface in the same direction as the current finish and this will bring it up like new again. Polished edges and any other polished surfaces can simply be wiped over with a silver polishing cloth.

Lace-embossed pebbles, with silver finish only, can be cleaned as follows. Line an old coffee cup with aluminium foil (shiny side up) and add a tablespoon of bicarb soda. Suspend the pebble in the cup and add boiling water. The mixture will bubble and fizz. Leave this for a few minutes and an electrolytic process will take place and line the aluminium foil with the tarnish. Rinse and dry thoroughly and then gently rub any polished areas only with a silver polishing cloth.

Lace pebble jewellery that has been oxidised can simply be wiped over with a polishing cloth. Do this very gently to avoid removing the oxidation in the lace pattern.

As a rule your Pebble jewellery should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. Your jewellery should never be sprayed with perfume, hairspray or deodorant as these can cause a patina to develop on the silver and never allow your silver jewellery to come in contact with chlorine pools and any chemicals.
