The Bloom collection

Reflecting the gentle rhythm of spring blooming
rose flower

Echoing the graceful unfolding of petals in spring, the intricate Bloom collection is a modern interpretation of flowers. Made from a double filigree like layer with a lacey floral pattern, the collection has a light and airy feel, while also having the strength to be worn as an everyday statement piece. The layered design provides both depth and dimension and is balanced with elegance and refinement. The Bloom collection can be made with a simple silver finish, or a black oxidised finish inside the double layer and crevices creating a striking combination. Faceted bead gemstones can be added for a touch of glamour or colour.

Combining modern technology with traditional hand fabrication techniques
CAD design for bloom ring

The Bloom collection was created using several techniques including 3d CAD [Computer-Aided Design], wax printing and laser cutting; as well as the traditional techniques of metal fabrication, forming and soldering. The initial stages began with sketches which I imported into 3d CAD software. I then traced out and refined the design into SVG format so it could be laser-cut in silver. The laser-cut pieces were shaped and soldered, then finished off with traditional jewellery making techniques. Some aspects of the collection were further developed in CAD, like the shank of the ring and small stud earrings; these were then printed and cast in silver.

Caring for your Bloom jewellery
cleaning materials for bellflower jewellery

Always store your Bloom jewellery, carefully wrapped in tissue paper to prevent scratching, in an airtight plastic bag or container. Don’t leave silver jewellery out in the open as circulating air will speed up any tarnishing. If you do need to remove tarnish from your Bloom jewellery which has an oxidised finish, then I recommend a silver cloth like Hagerty Silver Cloth available online.

Bloom jewellery made with the silver finish only (not oxidised) can be dipped in a silver dip like Hagerty Silver Clean available online. Dip the jewellery for a couple of seconds only, then rinse thoroughly with water and dry carefully with a tissue. Ensure the jewellery is dried thoroughly as any moisture left behind will leave a water mark on the satin finish and the whole cleaning process may have to be repeated. If you have a hairdryer available you can blast it with some hot air, (be careful: the jewellery will be hot!) but this is not essential, the main thing is that it’s dried properly.

As a general rule, all fine jewellery should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. Your jewellery should never be sprayed with perfume, hairspray or deodorant as these can cause a patina to develop on the silver.
